Karen Powell ’93
Karen Powell lives in Montana, where she owns Triple Divide Spirits, a vodka distillery. She is the Chief Tax Judge for the State of Montana, and founded and skates for the local roller derby team. Powell is married with two kids, a community activist, and a proud Wes grad ('93).
My Wesleyan experience was the foundation for my journey; I developed the courage and the conviction I needed to forge my own path. Classmates, professors, and staff at Wesleyan help each of us develop an intellectual curiousity that carries over into every aspect of life so we can each ask "why." And maybe more important, encouraged the development of the necessary emotional, intellectual, and professional skills to implement true change.
My days at Wesleyan taught me that we each have to be passionate about our lives and our community. It's deeply important to me to be strong community advocate, athlete, entreprenuer, litigator, and mother. I don't have to be defined by other people's expectations, and I truly believe my time at Wesleyan set that core belief. Thank you Wesleyan. And to all of the Wes community, come and join me in Helena, Montana for a Triple Divide Spirits cocktail!
