At Wesleyan I was able to be involved with a number of different research projects in the E&ES department. In addition to countless memorable field trips in CT, I did research in Puerto Rico, Guyana, and Death Valley with different professors. When I wanted to write a senior thesis, I was able to help design the project and felt ownership of it from beginning to end. The E&ES department was my community at Wes - tight knit, motivated and interesting students, open, welcoming, and encouraging professors. I would not have gotten these opportunities at a larger school, and I would probably not have continued on in science. I am currently a graduate student at Harvard, and occasionally I get to dive to the sea floor and study underwater volcanoes in the famous Alvin sub. Without Wesleyan, that wouldn't have happened.
