As the founder of a veterinary practice devoted exclusively to geriatrics, hospice & palliative care for animals, people are constantly asking me "how did you ever come up with that?!" Each time I tell my story, describing the winding & seemingly bizarre route of my professional career, the essential ingredient that makes everything fall into place is my Wesleyan education. Looking back, my "aha" moment came when I realized that everything I was doing in my career, every unique & unchartered twist & turn, was almost expected from a Wesleyan alum. I thought to myself, "This isn't so weird at all! I've been thinking this way since college." Independent, creative, critical thinking is the norm at Wesleyan, so I shouldn't have been surprised at all that I chose an unconventional path within a traditional profession. I credit my experience in the Science in Society Program, and Wesleyan's overall emphasis on novel academic pursuits with my ability to develop unique perspectives on veterinary medical ethics & healthcare systems in general. THIS IS WHY my Wesleyan education is unmatched anywhere.
