President Roth Kicks Off Fall Event Series in Chicago

July 20, 2016

On Sept. 11, President Roth joined NBC Correspondent John Yang '80 and author and journalist Alex Kotlowitz '77 at Chicago's John Hancock Center for a lively and provocative conversation about threats facing higher education. Close to 100 Wesleyan alumni, family, and friends attended the event, which was hosted by Jim '57 and Pat LaCrosse P'85. (Photos from the event below; more photos here.)

The conversation was the first in a series that will bring President Roth together with prominent Wesleyan alumni around the country for conversations about the value of liberal education – and current attacks on its premises and worth. Registration is now open for upcoming events in Houston and Dallas; admission is free of charge. Learn more.

President Roth's new book, Beyond the University: Why Liberal Education Matters (Yale University Press), is generating lots of excitement – on the radio, on television and in the op-ed columns of the nation's most important papers. Audiences around the country are hearing about the value of liberal education and associating that with Wesleyan. And that's not the only contribution the book is making to our university. All author royalties are going entirely to financial aid.
